The Successful completion of Phoenix Spaces’ STEM Spark Course

We are delighted to announce the successful completion of our pioneering STEM Spark course, co-designed by the Airbus Foundation and implemented by our incredible local partner, the Alchemist Lab. This innovative program was created to inspire and empower underserved youth in Amman, Jordan.

Our primary objective was to instil a scientific mindset and cultivate problem-solving skills in our students. To achieve this, we designed hands-on experiments which emphasised evidence-based thinking. Our curriculum covered a broad range of fundamental STEM concepts, such as space science, basic physics and maths, programing, forces and practical skills. We prioritised teaching these subjects in an engaging, culturally sensitive, and accessible manner.

Our first cohort consisted of 44 students aged 10-13, all of whom were refugees from Syria currently residing in resettlement communities in Amman, Jordan. Over the duration of 5 days, the students were able to immerse themselves in 11 lessons, totalling 20 hours of learning.

Within the 21st century, it is crucial to prioritise STEM education. Courses such as this one prepare students to not only to compete but excel in the technology-driven global market. Supporting this initiative, Rachel Schroeder, Managing Director of the Airbus Foundation, said: “The children access the resources they need to acquire the skills and competencies to face their future better equipped with knowledge and tools that can improve their conditions. Our aim is that this programme inspires the young people involved, and we hope it will also help them reach their full potential”. The impact of STEM education can be seen in students’ feedback after completing the STEM Spark course.

This is the best course I have ever attended, and now my dream is to become an astronaut.

Raafat’s perspective of his potential has expanded, while Mohammed’s confidence in his abilities had grown stronger. These quotes serve as a reminder of the positive outcomes that can result from providing underserved and marginalised individuals with opportunities and platforms which allow them to prosper and unlock their full potential.

The Founder and CEO of Phoenix Space, Alevtina Nepomniachtchikh commented on the launch of the course: “The key to a sustainable approach to the humanitarian crisis lies in unlocking the enormous potential of human capital. At Phoenix Space, we believe in STEM education playing a transformative role in the lives of marginalised children in the context of a changing world driven by rapid technological advancements.

We take great pride in the success of this program and are excited about its development in the future.
